Since public humiliation is no longer an option

does anyone have an inkling (or the cajones) to take a stab at how the season goes? Semi-public humiliation remains an option.

Edit: 9-3 sounds good to me. Losses to Stanford, BC, and Utah.

Losses at MSU & BC (This is the toss up one for me.)

USC is a 10 point win for the good guys.

9-3 sounds about right

Surely someone else has missed the mark by eight tiny little wins. It's a rounding error, really.

Maybe we can troll some UM blogs for their '10 predictions?

Swept by the state of Michigan, but running the table otherwise.

But seriously, folks, 9-3 or 8-4. The cock-eyed optimist in me says 9-3.

10-2.

by KGB, Belly o. the Beast, Wednesday, September 01, 2010, 18:08 (4979 days ago) @ Pete

If Willingham and Weis could placebo-effect their way to 9 or 10 wins in their opening campaigns, I don't see any reason why Kelly can't do at least as well. He's more capable and prepared, has better talent on hand than either that came into the job before and has a manageable schedule with a number of moderate challenges but not a single opponent on the docket that ND can't compete with right away.

I won't be tied up in knots if we go 8-4, but I see no reason to restrict expectations when the arrow seems to be pointing up in a variety of ways.

7 Wins. I'm expecting growing pains.

by domer.mq ⌂ @, Wednesday, September 01, 2010, 17:47 (4979 days ago) @ Pete

I think there might me some systemic issues after the mediocrity of the last 15 years that can't be wipe away after one offseason. I expect a win this weekend, then a rough patch, and then a strong finish. 7 wins and then a win in a bowl game.

8-4

Losses to SC, Utah, MSU and BC.

7-5 / 8-4

by Bingo @, Fort Wayne, IN, Wednesday, September 01, 2010, 17:43 (4979 days ago) @ Pete

Anytime I think we may be better I look at our secondary and shake my head. It's so much we have a lack of talent, it's that we're just so thin. Not to mention I'll believe our O-line aren't bull fighters (ole) when I see it. I love Brian Kelly, and I think he'll get us there, but I think we're overlooking our problems. If we get any injuries on defense (with the exception of Dog linebacker) we could be in real trouble.

9-3 as well

by Jeremy (WeIsND), Offices of Babip Pecota Vorp & Eckstein, Wednesday, September 01, 2010, 17:31 (4979 days ago) @ Pete

+/- one game either way, with 8-4 more likely than 10-2.

Think we'll see some serious fireworks on offense, but I'm really looking for some big improvements on defense. Hell, competent tackling would represent a significant step up.

9-3, which is why I drafted ND Monday night

by Busco21, Wednesday, September 01, 2010, 17:15 (4979 days ago) @ Pete

in the college football pick 'em Jay set up.

Crist is the player I'm most worried about. I wouldn't be surprised if we beat a few we shouldn't, and lost to a few we should have beat. Only because he hasn't had enough reps as a thrower, and we don't have adequate backups to let him be a runner.

I'll throw in a +/- 2 with my prediction. If we're between 11-1 and 7-5, I won't be the least bit surprised. Shit happens. If Crist had more experience, or a better backup, I'd say 8-4 would be the lowest I'd predict.

Thank God it's time to watch some ND football!!!!

I expect 8-4

by Gator77, Wednesday, September 01, 2010, 16:49 (4979 days ago) @ Pete

with losses to MSU, Stanford, Utah and BC.

I wouldn't be surprised to see one of those flip and we'd go 9-3.

and we could have been 0-6 or 6-0. I'll go with 4-2 and a loss to Utah.

9-3

I'll second this

by BPH, San Diego, Wednesday, September 01, 2010, 17:02 (4979 days ago) @ Jeff (BGS)

But I think 10-2 is more likely than 8-4.

I also think we'll be rolling by the end of the season, will give USC all they can handle (if not win) and will handily win a bowl to finish 10-3, with tons of momentum for 2011.

GLORY!

OK, I rationally expect 8-4, with losses to USC, Utah, and two of the 4-game "early season stretch of doom" (MSU, Stanford, BC, Pitt).

But as of Monday, I climbed on the bus. Hand me some kool-aid. We're going all the way........
