Upstairs/Downstairs (Buy/Sell/Hold (US)) - STAGE ONE
Ok guys & gals, the first step of 'Upstairs/Downstairs 2K14 (Buy/Sell/Hold (USA)) is live and ready for your input. There are instructions on the first page of the workbook, so things should be pretty self explanatory, but in case they aren't further explanation is below.

I wouldn't feel the need to try to work through the entire roster, but if a bunch of people spend 2 minutes on a couple of positions we should get some pretty representative group projections. The Buy/Sell/Hold section kicks off sometime next week, so start emptying those purple-faced piggybanks

It seems you all --- and if the thread last week with almost 11 replies is any indication this is a safe bet -- dearly love the rollicking fun that comes along with a B/S/H thread. But what if we aspired to something more? Imagine a cross between Telly’s Addicts and Noel’s House Party. You’ve just imagined Upstairs Downstairs, a new quiz show devised and hosted Mike (Bart).
This should be fun to keep track of as the season goes on, and not very labor intensive for anyone. It happens in two steps.
1. SETTING THE MARKET
This part is crowdsourced. Basically, we set up google spreadsheets for each position group, with columns for the stats essential to that position group (e.g., WRs have columns for rec/yds/TDs, DL have columns for tak/sacks/TFL,etc.). Within that position group, you (the user) enter two sets of stats for each player: what you think is a reasonable upper bound for their production this season (their 'Upstairs' value) and what you think would be a disappointing (but still reasonable) lower bound for their production (their 'Downstairs' value). You can do this for as many or as few players as you want.
2. PLAYING THE MARKET
For each player, the market setting exercise above will generate three sets of projected stats: 1. the average of their Upstairs/Buy values (in the U.S. this show will be known as 'Buy/Sell/Hold') 2. the average of their Downstairs/Sell values and 3. the midpoint between their buy/sell values (the 'Hold' value).
From there the rubber really hits the road. Each user gets $100 KellyBucks ("In Spread Principles We Trust"). Once the Buy/Sell/Hold figures are set for each player, it will be easy to set up a Google Forms survey whereby you (the user) can, for as many or as few players as you choose), select the Buy/Sell/Hold value, and place however many or few Kellybucks as you choose on that selection.
- If at the end of the season the player's production is closest to the Upstairs value, all of the Kellybucks wagered on that player's meeting the Downstairs value, and 50% of the Kellybucks wagered on that player meeting the Hold value will be distributed among the users who bet on the Upstairs value, in proportion with the amount of their initial bet/stake in the player
- If at the end of the season the player's production is closest to the Downstairs value, all of the Kellybucks wagered on that player's meeting the Upstairs value, and 50% of the Kellybucks wagered on that player meeting the Hold value will be distributed among the users who bet on the Downstairs value bound, in proportion with the amount of their initial bet/stake in the player
- If at the end of the season the player's production is closest to the Hold value, 50% of the Kellybucks from the Upstairs folks and 50% of the Kellybucks from the Downstairs folks will be redistributed to the Hold people, in proportion with the amount of their stake in the player. Hopefully this will disincentivize everyone from just picking the Hold value.
Does this make sense? This is all made up from the train this morning so it might not make sense. I think it should be pretty easy though. Takers?
