Also this note from the Calendar:

Nov 12. ST. MARY'S COLLEGE -- The annual Sophomore Cotillion will provide a change of pace from 8 to 11:30 for the relatively few Dixie flyers who have made the more favorable impressions on the sedate second-year women. Melodies by the Don Gels, of course.

There's a letter to the editor

by CK08, Friday, June 28, 2013, 06:34 (4229 days ago) @ Jay

about poor student showings at Pep Rallies before games against Navy and Penn.

Also, apparently a student got carded when trying to buy a 7-Up.

And there's an argument about time zones!

ND added women, but otherwise it seems like it's the exact same place it was in 1954.

And don't get me started on those newfangled helmets.

Need to stop whoring out for filthy lucre and recruits go back to the old leather jobbies the way Champion useta make 'em.

I'm amazed at how progressive they are

Creating a pdf of the magazine in 1954 was thinking WAY ahead.

Flub of the WEEK . . .

The ND man who dated a friend of
the family from Trinity College in
Washington. Upon bidding a fond farewell
later in the evening, he expressed
his regrets that he would be leaving
early the next morning for South Bend.
The next night, as he was calling for
another Trinity queen, guess ivho appeared
on the scene!

and a "Fighting Irish" mention back in 1918. It wasn't the official school nickname for another 9 years.

http://www.archives.nd.edu/Scholastic/VOL_0052/VOL_0052_ISSUE_0006.pdf

Notre Dame today holds a place pre-eminent in the wartime athletics of the country. " Rock" and his "Fighting Irish".by virtue of their 7-7 tie Saturday with the much-tooted Great Lakes eleven, the boast of Chicago sporting writers
and the conquerors of the two Western Conference leaders—Illinois and Iowa—smashed predictions and prophecies right and left and places the N. D. monogram at the pinnacle of western football along with the records of the teams which have passed before.

Check out some of the names on ND's team...

GREAT LAKES (7). NOTRE DAME (7)
Reichle L. E Kirk
Ecklund L. T H. Anderson
Keefe L. G Larson
Bachman C Smith
Jones R. G Crowley
Dashling R. T E. Anderson
Halas R. E Blank
Drisco Q. B Mohn

I am surprised that no one pointed out another very famous name on from the opposition.

George Halas.

Aren't there a few Bears fans here? If so, you should be ashamed.

is a yearbook from I think 1963 or 1958 that featured about four pages of nothing but Mary from a Peter Paul and Mary performance. I don't think the photographer/editor had ever seen a woman before.
