starting field position chart revamped
In response to LaFun's friendly chiding of my original chart, I've produced this version which may be a more accurate representation of ND's red zones woes in 2011.
Instead of simply counting "scoring opportunities" (TDs and all FG attempts, made or missed) this looks at "points per drive" from the different starting field positions. Again it's the national average plotted against ND 2011. I'm counting any TD as an automatic 7 points (as opposed to figuring out 2-pt conversions).
As you can see ND was pretty decent outside the fifty but severely underperformed the national average as it started closer to the end zone.
