"I have had long conversations with Timmy about where he is in his professional career and his commitment to playing international football. He has expressed his appreciation for all the opportunities we have given him, but he also feels at this point he needs to take a break. It's disappointing not having him as a part of the team at this important juncture of building our team, but ultimately a player must decide what is best for him. The door is certainly not closed on Timmy, but in the moment we move on without him."

One more point on Chandler.

No doubt many of us are disappointed with his decision, but it is absolutely ridiculous to be angry at Chandler or to claim that his situation resembles that of Giuseppe Rossi in any way.
Rossi was born and raised in New Jersey until he went to Italy as a teenager to play soccer. The boy is American. Although I understand the sway of playing for his ancestral home, which happens to be one of the great international powers, I was extremely disappointed by the decision and absolutely enraged by his immodest celebrations after his goals against us at the Confederations Cup. He can go shit in a hat.
Chandler was born in Germany to an American soldier and a German mother. His father abandoned him and his mom shortly after Timmy's birth. It doesn't appear that Chandler spent any significant part of his childhood in the U.S. He speaks only the most rudimentary English. Yes, he has an American passport, but he's German. It is beyond reasonable for him to wait to see if the Mannschaft would have interest in him. It's unjust to be angry with the kid.
Soccer blows

You're either American or you're not.
Why does FIFA or US Soccer even allow that shit?
Dumb.
It's all international sports, don't blame soccer

Olympic sports are the same way.
The most blatant example I recall is the skier Marc Ghirardelli back in the early 90's. He was Austrian but skied for Luxembourg. Why? He didn't like the Austrian coach. And Luxembourg, a mountainless place called one of the "Low Countries" for good reason , just wanted some Olympic medals. They got their wish when Ghirardelli won a gold.
The man had no ancestry from Luxembourg and had barely set foot in the place.

Any back story?

Been traveling all day. Is it the traveling? Am I American? Injury toll? Any and all of the above?
Well, he's German.

I suspect he wants to keep his options open in case Die Mannschaft come calling.
That was my initial thought.

Am I American. He is what the Germans may need in the coming years.
Hell, my kid is still eligible for Croatia and Ireland. He is 12, but that is neither here nor there :)
OT question about Croatia

Are you or your wife Croatian? Or am I incorrectly reading into your post? I ask because I'm in the midst of planning a honeymoon to Croatia (with a stop in Ireland on the way), and am soliciting advice and tips wherever I can. We're in the early stages of planning right now and my brain is swimming with the possibilities.
I am.

Never been, but I am told that Dubrovnik/Hvar area is gorgeous. And if you are in Hvar, check out the ancestral Funk Villa!:
I would like to move in, please

That house looks gorgeous. And virtually every site recommends Hvar. Unless things take a turn, I'm guessing we'll end up in Hvar for at least one night. We're both really excited to check out Croatia.
