FINAL 2010 PLAYING TIME

Center Braxston Cave played the most in 2010 with 836 snaps. In the
past, this statistic was recorded in minutes and seconds. This year
the Irish student managers totaled it by the number of snaps taken,
which is easier and makes more sense.

Notre Dame ran 895 snaps on offense in 13 games, or an average of 68.8
per game. The Irish defense was on the field for 905 snaps, or 68.9
per contest.

The top 5 in snaps taken on offense and defense were center Braxston
Cave (836), offensive left tackle Zack Martin (831), inside linebacker
Manti Te'o (824), safety Harrison Smith (820) and right offensive
guard Trevor Robinson (812). Almost cracking the 800 club was wide
receiver Michael Floyd (785), who was sidelined with a hamstring
injury in the loss to Navy.

Here are the totals for each individual who played. An asterisk
denotes someone who has used up all of his playing eligibility,
transferred or turned pro.

Quarterback
Dayne Crist - 509
Tommy Rees - 332
*Nate Montana - 49

Notes: The other five snaps for the 895 total were split between walk-
ons Brian Castello and Matthew Mulvey in the Nov. 13 Utah game "¦
Crist's season ended on the second series versus Tulsa on Oct. 30.
Rees took over as the starter then and in the final four games.

Running Back
*Armando Allen - 379
Cierre Wood - 328
*Robert Hughes - 192
Jonas Gray - 40

TJ Jones - 531
Theo Riddick - 490
*Duval Kamara - 264
John Goodman - 256

making a cameo in the regular-season finale at USC.

Tight End
Tyler Eifert - 434
*Kyle Rudolph - 399
Mike Ragone - 183
Jake Golic - 11
*Bobby Burger - 4

Notes: Rudolph was in almost every snap in the first six games before
surgery sidelined him the rest of the year. The Irish then utilized
much more double tight end packages with Eifert and Rudolph in the
power packages.

Offensive Line
Braxston Cave - 836
Zack Martin - 831
Trevor Robinson - 812
*Chris Stewart - 756
Taylor Dever - 593
*Matt Romine - 250
Chris Watt - 117

Notes: Right tackle Dever missed several starts at the midway point
because of a hamstring injury and was replaced by Romine before
returning to his starting role "¦ Watt rotated regularly into the mix
at left guard, where Stewart started.

Defensive Line
Kapron Lewis-Moore - 680
Ethan Johnson 674
Sean Cwynar - 431
*Ian Williams - 389
Hafis Williams - 244
*Emeka Nwankwo - 69
Kona Schwenke - 33
Tyler Stockton - 19
Brandon Newman - 4

Notes: The aim of the Irish staff is to not have any defensive lineman
have to play more than 50 to 55 snaps in a game, lest it take its toll
while the season progresses. Lewis-Moore and Johnson averaged
approximately 52 per game "¦ Nose guard Ian Williams missed the final
four regular season contests with a knee injury, but he had regularly
been sharing snaps with Cwynar - who then shared them with Hafis
Williams when Ian Williams was sidelined.

Linebacker
Manti Te'o - 824
Darius Fleming - 728
Carlo Calabrese - 489
*Brian Smith - 475
*Kerry Neal - 472

second half against Navy and saw limited action in the final five
games while getting replaced by Brian Smith.

Defensive Back
Harrison Smith - 820
*Darrin Walls - 675
Gary Gray - 660
Zeke Motta - 553
Robert Blanton - 483
Jamoris Slaughter - 292
Lo Wood - 23
Dan McCarthy - 22
Chris Salvi - 17
*Barry Gallup Jr. - 16

Notes: Motta started at safety most of the season because of injury
problems that hampered Slaughter, who returned to the starting lineup
late in the year "¦ Cornerback Blanton
was frequently used in nickel situations and also started at outside
linebacker versus Army to defend the option.

David Ruffer (kicker, kickoffs) - 131
Ryan Kavanagh (holder) - 61
Jordan Cowart (long snapper) - 77
Bill Flavin (short snapper) - 50

Notes: When Spond was injured in mid-season, fellow freshman Smith
replaced him "¦ Led by Jackson, who received the Special Teams Player
of the Year Award on Jan. 22, six of the top 10 special teams
appearances in 2010 were by freshmen.
