I'm shocked that people are shocked by the Sorsby decision

Did people not know, or think, that a Lubbock Co judge would do anything other than rule for Texas Tech?
I mean the filing venue told you the probable judicial outcome.
FWIW, I do get a kick out of the Judge hootin' about (Sorsbys) "irreparable harm" while basically setting aflame player gambling rules across the NFL, NBA, NHL who have now already mobilized their lawyers to join the expected NCAA appeal.

Harsh blowback upon TT over Sorsby from CFB officials
by hobbs, San Diego, CA, Monday, June 08, 2026, 12:35 (1 day, 0 hours, 15 min. ago) @ hobbs
I know they paid him 5m but is he worth it. The "distractions" with him are potentially endless. His basic eligibility is in serious question and if TT plays an ineligible player the NCAA could strip them of wins (ie. no playoffs even if they go undefeated).
TT can't even be happy with this decision because they never bargained for 'rouge nation' status when they turned over their FB program to a monied alum.

inherently puts you in "rogue program" status (or at least in substantial danger thereof).

Somewhat related, I read an article recently about layoffs that Utah's athletic department is getting forced into as part of their private equity deal. My general understanding is that they are laying off long-term university employees and replacing them with a cheaper "outside" agency, conveniently owned by the PE group.*

I'm going to enjoy the ND season this year,

but then I'm probably done. It's all just so gross, and I don't really want to be apart of it anymore.
Over the last 5 years I've really limited the amount of games I watch. Last year, I bet I watched 2 full games and parts of most of the others. It doesn't bring the same joy that it used to. Go Irish, I guess...
has anybody ever seen any polling

around public opinion of the direction of collegiate sports? I have to assume it is trending downwards.
It seems like it might be one of those short term/long term

decisions. So short term getting billionaires to spend huge money on their team increases profits for everybody.
But long term it seems like its going to turn off a lot of fans. I'd analogize it to when they decided World Series games should all be on at 830 at night. Good for short term profits, but long term probably lost a lot of younger fans.
What people say and what they do are two different things

I believe ratings are continuing to increase, although public opinion is in the toilet.
FWIW, I didn't watch a single minute of the playoffs this year. I wasn't boycotting, but after the ND snub, I just didn't care. And I went to IU for grad school.

for ND. I'm too invested in that to walk away. But once that happens, I'm fine with what appears to be the inevitable (yet totally unnecessary) self-destruction of college football.
I'm not far behind.

Legal question on Sorsby.
by hobbs, San Diego, CA, Monday, June 08, 2026, 09:00 (1 day, 3 hours, 50 min. ago) @ hobbs
TT plays at UC on Oct 24th.
What's to stop a Cincy judge from from issueing a TRO against Sorsby from playing locally (UC) because of the "irreparable damage" that UC would suffer if they lost a game to a player that was was suspended by the NCAA?
This really is a fascinating question.
by hlewis, Monday, June 08, 2026, 10:12 (1 day, 2 hours, 38 min. ago) @ hobbs
TT might try to domesticate the Texas judgment in all away game states under some theory of full faith and credit. Otherwise, Texas courts have no jurisdiction over NCAA operations outside the borders of that state. Seems to me TT would be subject to sanction for playing a disqualified player if he played in Ohio, and could forfeit all their games for the season like another university that played a disqualified player.
