for Jared Verse, a 1st and other considerations.
The Rams are going for it all this year. Couple this with them getting the 49er game moved to Australia (lol) and the ducks are aligned for a special season in Inglehood.

The Browns making reasonable FO moves.

Makes a couple years in a row, though takes a lot to recover from the Watson fiasco.
Sentiment makes me hate trading the best Browns player of my lifetime. But this is the only sensible move. The guy is 30, and the Browns were a 5-win team with him getting the sack record. DE is a high-leverage position, but it's not something that makes a team. An elite edge might put a good team over the top (basically the Rams calculus), but it isn't going to elevate an otherwise crappy team. Get younger, stockpile resources, and plan for the future.
The thing about Jared Verse

Speaking as a Bears fan, he would be THE prize of the offseason and would be substantially better than anyone on our d-line.
Browns were not going to get it together in time for Garrett to be a part of it. Getting a #1 AND one of the best young OLB/edges in the league is an absolute coup.
Garrett is a multiple time DPOY and surefire hall of famer, but Verse is a DROY, pro bowler in both of his 2 seasons, 5 years younger and frankly could also be a Hall of Fame type edge.
This is such a ballsy trade from both teams. I can't believe the Rams were willing to include Verse in the deal, and as soon as I saw it I knew that there was no universe where the Bears could have matched that offer.
And now Aaron Donald is talking about a comeback

Makes the Ty Simpson pick all the more puzzling
by BPH, San Diego, Monday, June 01, 2026, 12:40 (7 days ago) @ hobbs
They could have been all-iner if they had drafted someone who could actually contribute this season.
I don't see it that way.

It was a weak draft without many obvious impact rookies. If they didn't love the options at #13 to help out in 2026, then drafting Simpson as part of future succession planning makes sense. If he's a viable option 2-3 years from now, then it gives the Rams the freedom not to have to tank hard or burn a bunch of capital to draft their next franchise QB with a top 10-ish selection.
To me, the Garrett trade is a finger in the eye to every egghead analyst who cried, "But what if they're only one player away!" post-draft. Swapping him in for Verse will have a considerably larger impact on the Rams' short-term fortunes than anyone they could have drafted.
I'm not a Rams fan, per se, but I absolutely love the whole "Fuck them picks" approach. NFL, ESPN and others push this silly, breathless obsession with the draft, bc they've built a rather lucrative cottage industry around covering it for about 6 months every year. But the Rams laugh at the idiots like the Browns and Jets who hoard these huge pick stockpiles like Gollum but always end up sucking anyway. Get better at scouting, you fucking morons, and you wouldn't need to 15 ping-pong balls in the draft to stumble into a handful of quality players.
"F them picks" only works if you have an otherwise competent

core. Particularly a QB.
Of course.

There's no basis without already having a solid foundation. The problem comes with teams who are terrified of the cap, terrified about the prospect of paying players what they're actually worth. It's the undoing of a lot of very good teams in the cap leagues. But where others shy away, the Rams instead double down and I respect that about them.
It also doesn't work in every sport

You can't operate like that in the NBA. One player can change the entire fortune of a franchise. Before Cleveland "lucked into" LeBron you had to go back to the days of Mark Price to find Clev NBA relevance.
Basketball isn't really like any other sport.

5 on the floor, 2 round draft. Of course it's nothing like the NFL.
