Michigan infamously had an affirmative action program

overturned by SCOTUS almost 20 years ago.

It was pretty heavy handed. Being black was worth more in their points system than a 1600 SAT. And my recollection is that Asian applicants actually had points deducted (though that could be wrong).

But maybe it was necessary. Their mission ostensibly includes educating kids from Detroit and Flint, not just West Bloomfield and Long Island.
