As penalties go, a censure is less effectual than a speeding ticket, whatever legal consequences Trump might face elsewhere. There's nothing novel about failing to hold Trump meaningfully accountable for his actions--America has been doing just that since at least the 1980s.

These arguments about "healing the nation" and "taking the high road" are, however sincere, grotesquely misplaced. There can be no healing without accountability.
