My biggest issue with new Star Wars is the dependence on everything being "outside" the movies. To "get" the movies, you have to know X, Y, Z from the extended universe, recent comic books, live Fortnite events, and so on. Gatekeeping for the gatekeepers.
Let's say for a moment all of this is true. Disney doesn't have to do a darn thing. The people who want to make those connections make those connections. They know "the truth" and it somehow satisfies them to be at peace with whatever version they are choosing to engage with.
I'm for it. Give that portion of the fanbase their Ovaltine and move on.
Q is a perfect analogy.
If my creative work is being re-framed through some cartoon backdoor, yeah I'm going to be upset, but I shouldn't be surprised.
