Sorry if my original post or other comments made it seem that way.

It's more about how rationale and facts can get entirely overrun by 1) news media looking for a story and 2) motivated parties looking to manipulate public opinion in order to maintain power/money.

Sure, that can certainly play a role in politics, but as we're all well aware here, it can play a role in everything, even college football fandom.
