Kelly tweets from Hamilton

(If Kelly considers the questions to be more on offense than defense, then color me even more encouraged about this season.)

B.Kelly on #NotreDame QB Dayne Crist: "Making good progress. He'll be able to do everything in the spring but full contact." No surprise.

Exchange from this AM: @PeteThamelNYT: "What do you think about what's transpiring in Los Angeles with your new rival?" Brian Kelly: "UCLA?"

Another tidbit: Brian Kelly doesn't have captains. Only gameday captains: "I want them all to be involved in that leadership." #NotreDame

More Brian Kelly: "Pleasantly surprised with our defensive level of talent. The questions are more on offense than on defense." #NotreDame

#NotreDame HC Brian Kelly today on his team's conditioning: "Right now, we couldn't go four quarters at the pace I want to go at."

I like the business about captains.

I hope this will promote an atmosphere in which it's understood that any number of guys could step up and make a game-changing play instead of leaning too much on a small core of players.

it also sounds like

Lane Clelland has indeed moved to defensive end. Certainly an interesting move. He fits the tall DE archetype Kelly and Co. have talked about, but that certainly doesn't leave much room for error at offensive tackle.

I hope it means Robinson is moving to RT

It's harder to replace two starting OTs than one tackle and one guard, and I think Nuss and/or Watt would be better equipped to step in without a hitch than Dever and/or Martin.

maybe

I keep thinking of the brick wall Robinson that is great on the inside, but not that fast on the edge, especially in a spread style offense.

Then again, maybe I should wait to see what we get after winter conditioning.

I think you'll see smaller

and more agile linemen across the board. For some strange reason Weis beefed everyone up only to sit back in the shotgun and sling it all over the place. It wasn't a match made in heaven.

Could say good things about Martin and Dever.

I'm the eternal optimist.

Love the conditioning comment

Not that we're in the shape we're in, but that we're going to be in the shape we're going to be in.

Me too

I'm starting to see evidence that he really is about fundamentals, and it makes me very, very happy.

The UCLA comment was worth a smirk
