65 wins in a row

My son's little league team finally had their 2 1/2 year streak ended tonight in a 12-6 loss. It has been an amazing experience to watch these kids accomplish something so remarkable.

My older son was on the team for 58 of those wins, along with two city championships. This year's team is quite different from last year's team in make-up and experience. Last year, through eight games we had 24 home runs. This year we have 2. Still, until tonight, we had found new ways to win. My son, my nephew, and one other player were on the team for all 65 wins and that will likely never be matched.

Hell of a ride for the boys.

Oh, and they're great, engaging, intelligent young dudes.

Congrats to them, and their parents, on an incredible accomplishment/journey.

My 8th grade basketball team went 96-4

we had some pretty great athletes: guys who played at all-conference or all state levels in high school, guys who played DI college basketball, guys who played college football, Johnny May Bowls. You get more than 2 of us together, and the conversation will slope towards the 1998-99 basketball season real quickly.

Awesome for your kids. Something to hang their hat on forever.

They have had quite a run in other sports as well

There are 6 kids that were part of this streak that I have coached for the last 7 years in football. They've lost one game since the 3rd grade (finishing up 7th now). Same group has won all but a handful of games in basketball as well.

As Funk said, they are smart as hell too.

This team did this. This team did that.

Big shit.

My first year in Majors LL, we went 1-19 on the heels of the previous years' team going 19-1. So stick that in your hat and smoke it.

Of and when I played CYO Intermediates, in our first game, we trailed 19-0 after the first quarter.

Oh and in my senior year of high school, in the city championship game, I had 3 INTs but I fumbled the 3rd one on the 3 yard line trying to take it out of the endzone and they scored 4 plays later for what would be the deciding points in a 16-15 loss.

You people and your successes can blow it out your ass.

My sophomore year, our HS conferences were realigned. In the first year in our new 10-team conference, we set the unbreakable record of 0-18 against the conference.

Were you on my Little League team?

When I was 11, I was on a 12-year-old heavy team. The next year, in addition to losing all the 12 year olds to the 13-14 year old league, we had two kids move away, and a third see the writing on the wall and "quit", then sign up again and catch on with another team as basically a free agent.

So it was me, one other 12 year old, and the rest were 11 year olds. We were basically the 1962 Mets. At one point, an umpire told us we were on the wrong field and pointed the way to the 9-10 year old field. After our 6th straight mercy rule loss to begin the season, my grandfather asked me "what the hell is wrong with your team?"

We won one game, 6-4, and I finished it with a diving catch in center field (which I played because I was the only kid on the team that could catch fly balls).

The next year, all those 11 year olds turned 12 and had their growth spurts, and they won the league title. (I got lucky in the draft into the 13-14 year old league and ended up on a championship team there, no thanks to me).

I'm pretty sure I hold the record for Worst Punt Return

in Chicago Catholic League History. -17 yards vs. St. Laurence

I once counted that I lost nearly 10 championship games

in my youth sports career, spanning both soccer and basketball, in league and camp play.

One time, after playing fullback for the entire season, my head coach put me in goal for the championship game despite the fact I had never played goalie in my life. It did not end well.

I later actually did play goalie for a winless soccer team. We were close to winning one until a ball I was trying to snuff was kicked into the goal by my teammate.

I love sports despite being terrible at them.

Congrats, that is impressive.

Are you talking "little league" as in youth baseball, or Official Little League rules?

Youth baseball... Cal Ripken league

5 of the 12 year olds from last year, including my oldest son, we're the core of the team that finished 3rd in the Cal Ripken World Series.

Congrats on that!
