Considering he knew what a shambles the program was in.
It's on Charlie for ultimately not succeeding, but the level of his failure is tempered by how terrible Willingham really was. We all knew that he was a terrible coach from his time at ND. It's just unfortunate that it took another 5 years fully realize how terrible he actually was.
